Research and Development tool. This is a beta and it requires Internet Find It 2.108 or higher. Keep in mind you are buying a beta. If you buy the beta version of this, you will get a very low price and after we have a final version, you will get the final version of RD for no additional cost.
RD is one of our Internet applications that serves the whole enterprise. RD is one of our one-of-a-kind Internet tools to use many computers to share an Internet Find It workload.
RD will take you through all it's found data very fast and safe. The reason it goes so fast and safe is Internet Find It saves the data it found as web pages on the RD share with ActiveX (including flash), Links, Styles, Scripts, and JavaScript removed! This is so when you view your pages that RD found, it will be safe! Add to that, if you really want to see the ActiveX or scripts on any page that you found, there is a link at the top of each web page on your RD share that will take you directly to the link if you really want to see that page in it's native form (keep in mind that if you go to these links, the safety is gone).
The safe invironment means that you will be able to scroll through all of the found web pages without getting any promtpts such as 'Would you like to download Flash?', 'Your current browser settings do not allow you to run ActiveX', 'You should download the latest version of Flash.', 'you need to install the free Adobe Reader...', 'You should install the newest version of Acrobat to read this document', and so on. You get the idea. No prompts!
You can use RD on a single computer, but the real cool thing about RD is you can uses 'other computers' in your network for a couple of reasons: You can get searches queued right now (even if the entire RD Network is busy). You can have the aggregate of all of your PCs working for you at the same time.
To setup RD, you will need to run rd1.exe (double click it). The one thing you will have to have before you can use RD is the Path for RD jobs. This can be any file on a share. Keep in mind this share will be accessed by each of the RD computers in the RD Network. Each of the RD machines will find each other automatically. But the Path for RD Jobs must be a file that is shared. I recommend creating a folder on any of your machines in the Local Area Network (LAN). This means at this point you do not want to cross any routers or firewalls. I recommend calling the file \rd\pending.txt. Make sure you give all of the computers access to the folder.
RD reads the status of all of the other machines running RD and if they are new machines the status of them will be set to Idle. As you exit RD on any given machine, that status of that machine will be changed to Off Line.
The RD name defaults to the windows computer name, but you can change this if you want. the RD Status File defaults to the same share you have setup for Path for RD jobs but the file name is rdstatus.txt. You can change this, but you do not need to. The Keep field should start off around 100, you can adjust this for your particular situation. The lower this number the closer to an exact match.
Seconds Between Pages for Results, we like .5 seconds. .5 seconds sounds fast, but once you start to go through the results pages, .5 seconds from the time a page is finished loading to the time it starts to load the next web page is not that fast.
The Jobs Pending list will automatically be updated by RD as it is going through the different jobs on all of the PCs it is running on.
Add to Queue is the text box where you type what to search for. As you enter the items, RD will start executing them based on Idle machines. After you enter text in the text box, you can hit the Enter Key or click the Add button.
If you want to see the list in your PC, but you do not want your PC actually doing any of the work, you can toggle to Work Mode button to Monitor Mode.
You can toggle the Clipboard On and Off. On mode just looks for changes in the clipboard. For example if you have the clipboard on, you can copy something from a web site, and as soon as you copy it, RD will automatically add it to the queue as if you typed it. This can be another time saver.
rd1.exe and internetfindit2.exe must both be on the same folder.
You must have rd1.exe and internetfindit2.exe on each machine you want to make part of the RD network.
The Fast Browser button will open another window. You will see a list of folders that will match the names of text searches, with the spaces replaced with underscores. The underscores make Internet sharable directories. For example you search for 'the best search engine in the world', the folder name will be 'the_best_search_engine_in_the_world'.
If you double click on any of the folders, and there are items found, the browser will become visible, and you will be shown each page for exactly the length of time you set it to. You can also use the Back and Next buttons. Using the Back and Next buttons, turns on the pause automatically.
RD allows you to spread your jobs over as many PCs as you wish. The basic operation is you have a job list on a shared folder that all other PCs have access to, and they read the file, and will do the oldest job on the list, the PC doing that particular job, rewrites the list taking off the job it is working on. Now all of the job lists are automatically updated in each of the PCs. As the PCs complete the job they are working on, they will automatically read and re-write the list for the next job on the list.
It gives you the combined power of all of your PCs for a single project, or you can have as many projects as you wish.
You can use a command line to change the status of computer. RD will automatically change it's own status as it is busy doing searches, but you can have one PC disabled temporarily. One case that I use this is for my backup to DVD batch file. So you can type rd1.exe /status Backing up to DVD
RD can only use those machines that are in Idle mode. So when RD start to do a job while my DVD backup is running, it knows not to use this machine right now. If you are going to do this with batch files, the last line in the batch file should be rd1.exe /status idle
The pages that RD actually saves to your hard drive has scripts, ActiveX, applets, and Links removed. As you are going through the pages you have found, you will notice that there is a link at the top of each web page in question so you can go and see that page in tact.
If all of the computers are busy you will see that in the RD Status: All Machines are Busy at the top of the screen.
If there are any computers that are idle you will see RD Status: Next Job Goes to (Name of the PC) at the top of the screen
